Bharat Petroleum announces Rs.75 Lakhs cash award and promotion to Olympian PV Sindhu

Joining the Prime Minister and the Petroleum Minister in congratulating the Ace Shuttler for bagging the Silver Medal at the Rio Olympics 2016, Chairman & Managing Director of BPCL, Shri S Varadarajan, under the advice of the Hon’ble Minister of State (I/c) for Petroleum & Natural Gas, Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, has announced a cash award of Rs.75 Lakhs and a promotion to Ms. PV Sindhu on the historic achievement for India.

Pusarla V Sindhu, a BPCL sports person and ace shuttler of India has scripted a new chapter in Indian Sporting history by being India’s first woman to win a silver medal in the Olympics on Friday, 19 August 2016 with a stunning display of talent, grit and grace. It was a moment of truth for all Indians when she was awarded the silver medal at the Rio Olympics.

Olympian PV Sindhu who hails from Hyderabad has been associated with Bharat Petroleum as a fourteen year old promising talent and joined Bharat Petroleum in July 2013. She is currently posted as Assistant Manager (Sports) at our Hyderabad office. Recipient of the fourth highest civilian honour of the Nation, the Padma Shri in 2015, and the Arjuna Award in 2013, P V Sindhu is the first Indian Woman to win a medal at the 2013 World Championship.

Born to volleyball champions Arjuna Awardee PV Ramana and PV Vijaya, PV Sindhu drew inspiration from Pullela Gopichand her coach and mentor and  started playing Badminton from a young age of eight. With this win, Sindhu has scripted history by being the first Indian Shuttler to win a silver in the Olympics and the youngest Indian overall to make a podium finish at the Olympics.
