BPCL under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities supports “Hospital on a train” or “Lifeline Express” which has operation theatres equipped with state-of-the-art medical equipment. The project aims to reduce the burden of avoidable disability in communities in rural India through screening, early identification, medical and surgical intervention along with Information Education Communication programmes on various topics. The Lifeline Express have reached in the areas of Manmad (Maharashtra), Daltonganj (Jharkhand), Latur (Maharashtra), Churaibari (Tripura), Araria (Bihar), Dhubri (Assam) and Papum Pare (Arunachal Pradesh). Each of the location, more than 10,000 people have benefitted and have availed free healthcare services. These services include corrective orthopedic surgeries for people afflicted with polio or club-foot deformities, hearing impairment, cataract surgeries, performing plastic surgeries for cleft lips. In addition, the doctors on board provide breast & cervical cancer screening, epilepsy treatment, dental treatment, Gynecological and Cancer procedures. In addition stroke prevention programmes are also conducted through health education.

BPCL has supported a project that focuses on improving the maternal & child health and also aims at reducing high risk pregnancy, increasing institutional deliveries with better facilities of the tribal community in HD Kote, Karnataka. This project has directly benefitted around 9000 tribal people and indirectly reached out to around 2 lakh people during the span of the project.

A large population belonging to economically weaker section of the society are still not able to avail medical services despite being diagnosed for cataract surgeries. BPCL through its implementing agencies conducts end-to-end cataract care services for patients who were identified during eye-screening camps. One of such successful project was conducted in Thane & Palghar Districts of Maharashtra and more than 3400 patients were treated free of cost which includes intervention for Pre & Post surgeries, medicines, aids/ appliances, food & accommodation during the surgery period, etc.

Children suffering from Congenital Heart Defect are likely to develop learning difficulties and deformities in their life span. Most of the cases can be corrected in early stage, however due to economic constraint many families cannot afford to provide immediate treatment. BPCL has undertaken one such project covering 18 districts of Maharashtra where preliminary screening was conducted by District surgeons of its respective Districts and the suspected cases which are referred to empaneled agencies for further medical investigations. 50 children suffering from Congenital Heart Defect ailments were supported for advance medical care which included free surgeries.
 

BPCL-Kochi Refinery has an ongoing project for children in 156 Government Aided Schools in the areas of Refinery and costal Kochi covering nearly 36000 children. This project focuses on providing nutritious breakfast to all students early in the morning in order to sharpen their intellectual capabilities, improve their physical health and encourage enhanced enrolment. Majority of the students in the schools come from socially and economically backward families.  Due to financial hardships students used to arrive in school without having breakfast. Thus this affected the health of children and it was observed that they lacked focus in studies. The project has been specifically effective in ensuring better attendance, improvement in academic performance and extra- curricular activities and inculcating good eating habits.

BPCL also undertakes a project for care & support of HIV/AIDs affected persons in seven districts of Kerala viz. Kannur, Wayanad, Malappuram, Idukki, Pathanamthitta, Ernakulum and Kollam. Through its CSR programme, Kochi refinery is supporting around 5000 HIV affected people by providing nutrition, medical interventions as well as educational support for their children.
