Ceramics/Porcelain:  They permanently change when heated and will not dissolve again.
 

Pottery:  Clay is bonded with water chemically and thus, it will disintegrate. The “kiln” is the most essential equipment in the production process. It is a long tunnel heated by gas heaters through which each product passes. This process is known as firing. In the first section of the kiln, the product is dried at low temperature to remove water from the clay. If the product were exposed to a high temperature in the first stage itself, the water present in them would turn to steam, thus, causing an explosion. In the second section, the temperature inside the kiln has been raised to around 1185oC (temperature may vary depending on the product being baked). This is where the clay and the other materials start to bake. Before they come out of the tunnel a cooling section cools them at a uniform rate to prevent warping or cracking.
