Indian Kabaddi team maintained its status as undisputed champions of the Asian Games by winning the Gold Medal for seventh successive occasion. India in a cliffhanger defeated a spirited Iran team by 2 points to emerge victorious.

The men's final was a nerve-wracking affair with the Iranians leading till the very end. India, who have won every single gold since Beijing 1990, only took the lead three minutes before the finish. They then wrapped up the match 27-25 at the Songdo Global University Gymnasium. It became 16-7 when an Iran raider got three Indians out, and then 17-10. But India's No. 3 Anup Kumar, had got three Iranians out in one raid. At half time, Iran lead 21-13. With seconds left in the match, Iran trailed 25-26, and their raider Meraj Sheykh went into the Indian half in his effort to win the gold medal. Instead of going for just a point to tie the game, he got ambitious and went deep into the Indian 'territory'. The Indians duly grabbed him, pinned him down and sealed the deal.

Our ace badminton stars Saina Nehwal and P V Sindhu won the BRONZE medal in the Women’s team badminton championship at the Asian Games.

In Hockey, S.V. Sunil, Birender Lakra & Manpreet Singh were part of the Indian team which won the Gold Medal. India defeated Pakistan in the finals on penalty shoot out after the teams were tied 1-1 at full time. Last time India won the Gold was at the 1998 Bangkok Asian Games. With this victory India has qualified for the Rio Olympics to be held in 2016. India had earlier beaten South Korea 1-0 in the semifinals.
