TOLUENE

Product Specifications

Toluene is a pure aromatic compound having a fixed boiling point unlike other petroleum product, which are a mixture of hydrocarbon compounds. Toluene is primarily used in the manufacture of chemicals, drugs, explosives, food flavouring and sweetening agents, paints and resins. Toluene is a hydrocarbon & is produced from the refinery Aromatics recovery unit or as a by-product during naphtha cracking. Toluene.is also an important gasoline additive with a high-octane number, so it is used to improve the anti-knocking characteristic of gasoline. Toluene produced from BPCL’s Mumbai & Kochi Refinery is a popular product amongst its users for its quality, conforming to IS 537-1967 specifications. Toluene is also available at BPCL import and storage terminal at IMC Kandla conforming to IS 537-1967 BPCL will be producing Toluene from BTX unit at the Ethylene Cracker at Bina Refinery. The unit will be commissioned in FY2028

Application :

  • Drugs, Paints, Perfumes, Explosives, Printing Ink etc.
  • In the manufacture of chemicals like Tri Nitro Toluene for Defense applications, Benzoic acid for food preservatives, Dyes intermediates, pesticides intermediate etc.

Key Properties :

  • BPC controls Sulphur, Benzene and Thiophene content which are undesirable at lowest level

Naptha

MSDS

Naphtha is a highly versatile and flammable liquid hydrocarbon mixture, commonly used as a feedstock and is a key raw material in petrochemical industries. Naphtha is a general term used to describe special boiling point spirits having boiling range of 30°C to 180°C (approx.). It Is used as a feed stock for fertiliser manufacturing, Fuel in Gas Turbines in Power plants. Also used as raw material for production of Urea & Ammonia Petrochemicals. Mumbai Refinery (MR) produces a single grade, viz. Low Aromatic Naptha (with aromatic content of typically around 6 – 10%), while Kochi Refinery (KR) produces two types of Naphtha, viz. Low Aromatic Naphtha (LAN) (with aromatic content generally < 12 %V) and HAN (High Aromatic Naphtha) (with aromatic content generally > 12 %v). LAN and HAN are different grades of Naphtha depending on different customer requirements. KR also produces a mixed grade of Naptha depending on specific customer need. Generally the High aromatic variety are used in combustion and the Low aromatic variety in petrochemicals and fertilizer manufacturing

BENZENE

Product Specifications (KR-MR)  MSDS

Benzene is a hydrocarbon & is produced from the refinery Aromatics recovery unit or as a by-product during naphtha cracking. It is primarily used as an intermediate to make products such as styrene, polystyrene, phenol and nylon. In India, Benzene finds its primary applications in textile, agricultural & detergent industries. Benzene is also an important gasoline additive with a high octane number, so it is used to improve the anti-knocking characteristic of gasoline.

Benzene produced from BPCL’s Mumbai & Kochi Refinery is a popular product amongst its users for its quality, conforming to IS 543-1992 specifications.

BPCL will be producing Benzene from BTX unit at the Ethylene Cracker at Bina Refinery. The unit will be commissioned in FY2028

Application:

  • styrene, polystyrene, Cumene/phenol, Linear Alkyl Benzene and Caprolactam
  • Nitro-benzene, Choloro Benzene, Aniline

Key Properties :

BPC-MR controls Bromine Index (Olefin compounds) and Toluene content at lowest level which improves the purity and helps in increasing the yield of intermediates

PROPYLENE

Product Specifications MSDS

Propylene is a key component or raw material for many end use products. Propylene, also known as Propene gas or C3, is one of the major building blocks of the Petrochemical Industry. C3 is used as a feed stock for the manufacture of Poly-propylene, and hence the name Poly-Propylene Feed Stock.

Application

  • The materials that are derived from propylene include: Polypropylene, Acrylonitrile, Propylene oxide, Oxo-alcohols, Cumene and Isopropyl alcohol (IPA).
  • It is also used in pharmaceutical industry for manufacture of API pre-cursors.

Propylene (C3) is available in three variants:

  • Polymer grade with a purity of 99.5% (min)
  • Chemical grade with a purity of 95% (min)
  • Refinery grade with a purity of 50% (min)

Polymer Grade HEXANE

Product SpecificationsMSDS

M/s Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited are pioneers in manufacturing and marketing of Hexane for edible and essential oil extraction units all over the country. With the commissioning of the state of the art Isomerization unit at Mumbai Refinery, BPCL is proud to showcase a “World Class Product” - Hexane, which far exceeds the requirements of Polymer Grade Hexane.

Application

Hexane Polymer is used both as a solvent & a carrier in slurry polymerization of LDPE, LLDPE and HDPE formulations.

This product is being consumed by all leading slurry polymerization manufacturers.

USPs:

  • This product is approved by M/s MITSUI, Japan for slurry polymer applications.
  • Higher n-Hexane content enables quick settling of Batch, enhances the reaction and prevents unreacted metal getting carried away as wastage.
  • Very narrow boiling range facilitates virtually complete recovery of solvent.
  • Negligible Sulphur content typically <2 ppm helps in reducing the costly catalyst consumption.
