Apart from being used as a fuel to run motor vehicles, gas can be used in the following operations.

Surface Coating:  Gas is used for generating steam/hot water which are essential for the pre – treatment process.

Annealing: It is a heat treatment process, commonly used to get rid of the stress and rigidity of the metal as well as increase its ductility. Gas fired annealing furnaces are used to heat the metal above its critical temperature and held at that temperature for a period of time before the controlled cooling process.

Hot Forging: This process involves using heat to shape the metal via hammering, pressing, or rolling it. Gas is used to fire forging burners and furnaces. The furnaces heat the metals at high temperatures like:
360 to 520 degrees Celsius for Al-Alloys
700 to 800 degrees Celsius for Cu-Alloys
1150 degrees Celsius for Steel

Casting / Melting:  Casting requires molten metal. Hence, the very first step involves the metal being melted in a gas fired furnace. The molten metal is then poured into the predefined cavities. It is then allowed to be solidified at desired rate and sent for removal of cast parts, cleaning, machining and surface polishing.
