BPCL Mumbai Refinery has received several prestigious awards and recognition for its projects and initiatives.
MR has be adjudged with the award under Manufacturing Category, conducted by IMC Ramkrishna Bajaj National Quality Award Trust, Mumbai - March 2019.
BPCL has been conferred with this award as a recognition of its Sustainability initiatives.
BPCL was recognised with Gold award under the Process Sector, Mega large category.
Centre for High Technology presented BPCL with the award for development of indigenous dewaxing catalyst.
BPCL MR received certificate of merit under RBNQA Nationality Quality Award scheme
MR was felicitated with OGCF Award 2018 under the category - Best Improvement in Furnace Efficiency
Mumbai Refinery won Best Innovation in Refinery Team for production of de-aromatized solvent
Mumbai Refinery has been honoured with two awards under 2 categories: Excellence in Energy Conservation & Management | Excellence in Human Resources Management in Chemical Industry
The Refinery has been conferred with Gold Award under NAMC 2017-18 along with a special award for Strategic Leadership
Ms. Kondapalli Shreya C. was recognised with this award in the category of service experience of more than 20 years

Six Sigma initiative has been aggressively pursued in Mumbai Refinery for more than a decade. Various projects have been implemented with a view to achieve improvements such as reduce process cycle time, reduce costs, increase customer satisfaction, and increase profits.
Currently Six Sigma Wave 9 initiative is in progress and there are 75 certified black belt holders and around 290 certified green belt holders in Mumbai Refinery. A total of around 170 projects / initiatives have been implemented.
In order to improve work place organization and to bring about overall efficiency Mumbai Refinery has embarked on implementation of 5S program followed by an in-depth audit to sustain with the improvements.
Appropriate training was imparted to all role holders to inculcate a habit of how to organize a work space for efficiency and effectiveness by identifying and storing the items used, maintaining the area and items and sustaining the new order.
5S is implemented in majority of functions in refinery and currently three locations have been chosen for implementation.
Mumbai Refinery participates in various Improvement programs, Benchmarking studies and assessments from reputed agencies such as Frost & Sullivan, IMC - Ramakrishna Bajaj National Quality Award Trust, International Research Institute for Manufacturing (IRIM), Confederation of Indian Industries (CII), Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI).
These agencies carry out assessments based on European Foundation of Quality Model (EFQM) or Malcolm Baldrige model.
