Keeping pace with technology, investment in infrastructure, skill and talent of employees, with products and services developed around the needs of our customers, last decade witnessed phenomenal growth in sales and market capitalization. Over the last decade, starting from FY 2009-10 till FY 2018-19, we increased our sales from 28.07 MMT to 43.30 MMT, an increase of 54.26%, reaching a market share of 25.10% among Oil Marketing PSU Companies. We also increased Gross Revenue from Operations from Rs. 133,749 Crore in the financial year ended March 2010 to Rs. 3,40,879 Crore in the financial year ended in March 2019, an increase of 154.86%. The Net Profit of the company improved 3.5 times from Rs. 1,719.98 Crore to Rs. 7,802.30 Crore, which added almost 5 times increase in Market Capitalisation from Rs. 18,680 Crore to Rs 106,618 Crore in the last decade.
Today, Bharat Petroleum's Group Refineries, spread across the country (Mumbai in West, Kochi in South, Bina in Central India and Numaligarh in North & East) and compliant with all global standards of safety & quality, reached a record throughput in 2018-19 was 39.63 MMT, almost doubling it from 23.03 MMT 10 years ago.
Over the last two years, BPCL Group refineries invested Rs. 5969 Crore to equip themselves with the latest technology for producing petrol and diesel, compliant to the BS VI Grade, well ahead of schedule.
From 2.2 MMTPA refinery, in 1955, and the largest refinery in Asia at that time, today 14.5 MMTPA Mumbai Refinery, caters to more than 30% of our Company's market demands, yet it remains one of the most compact refineries.
Foray into several Digital Initiatives, like Digitally Enabled Turnarounds; installation of Continuous Catalytic Regeneration Reformer in March 2014, New Crude Unit CDU4 in December 2015, Isomerization Unit in February 2017, Diesel Hydro Treater in June 2017, Gasoline Treatment Unit in Oct 2019; with combined investment value of Rs. 6,300 Crore, are some of the major upgradation projects highlights of Mumbai Refinery, which has given it the name - "Refinery of the Future".
Located on India's western coastline in Kerala, 15.5 MMTPA capacity Kochi Refinery is India's largest public sector refinery today.
With Crude Oil receipt facilities consisting of Single Point Mooring (SPM) and associated shore tank farm in place, it is equipped to receive crude oil in Very Large Crude Carriers (VLCCs), which helps in reducing the freight charges to a great extent and increasing flexibility in crude oil selection.
Kochi Refinery's coveted Propylene Derivative PetrochemicalProject (PDPP) for manufacturing high demand niche petrochemicals is under commissioning which will propel us to a dominant position in this space. The feedstock for the project is approximately 250 TMT per annum of Polymer Grade Propylene produced from the Petro FCCU and will produce niche petrochemicals like Acrylic Acid, Oxo Alcohols and Acrylates. Another facility, with an investment of Rs 11,130 Crore, is planned to set up to produce Polyols, Propylene Glycol & Mono Ethylene Glycol (MEG) to get advantage of supply demand gap of 1,138 TMT in India, using availability of available feedstock & lower capital cost.
Kochi Refinery has demonstrated its commitment to HSSE with enviable record of reaching 63 Million Accident Free Man-Hours in December 2019.
Equipped with a good Operational Technology platform with Advanced Process Control, linear programming model and automation technologies supporting operations, Kochi Refinery is ready to take on digital revolution.
Bharat Oman Refineries Limited (BORL), a joint venture between BPCL and Oman Oil Company, was born in the beginning of this decade, when it was dedicated to the nation by Dr. Manmohan Singh, Hon'ble Prime Minister of India, on 20th May 2011. With sustained capacity growth and development, it now stands at 7.8 MMTPA capacity.
Being an inland refinery, it has overcome logistical challenges with pipelines connectivity. It connects to the Crude Oil Terminal at Vadinar through a 937 kms long cross-country pipeline, which was commissioned in 2009, while Bina-Kota Pipeline connects the evacuated products with Mumbai-Manmad-Bijwasan pipeline, serving the north and north-west Indian markets.
Nestled in the sylvan environs of the Brahmaputra valley, 3 MMTPA Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL), which is a Joint Venture between Bharat Petroleum, Government of Assam and Oil India Limited, was dedicated to the nation by the erstwhile Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri A. B. Vajpayee on 9th July, 1999.
A Mini Ratna PSU, NRL has made crucial contribution in the country's oil and gas security and supply, over the last decade, by moving 80% of its products through Pipeline connecting it to its Siliguri Marketing Terminal in West Bengal, as well as, it operates a 60 MMTPA LPG Bottling Plant.
NRL is the single largest producer of Wax in India with annual production capacity of around 50 TMT, holding almost 50% of the wax market share in India. NRL has started exporting it to countries like Kenya, Mexico, Nepal and Bangladesh and will expand its global footprints to Brazil, USA, Mozambique in the near future.
The planned NRL expansion from 3 MMTPA to 9 MMTPA is a part of the ambitious Government of India's 'Hydrocarbon Vision 2030 for the North East', at a cost of Rs. 22,594 Crores. This Project will also include 1,398 KM long, 9 MMTPA capacity Crude Oil pipeline to transport imported crude oil from Paradip Port in Odisha to refinery at Numaligarh in Assam, ensuring crude oil security to the Region and 654 km long Numaligarh - Siliguri Pipeline to transport HSD, MS and SKO from refinery to marketing terminal at Siliguri, West Bengal.
To evacuate the refined products safely and reliably, we have laid down a vast network of 2,241 kms long pipelines, connecting our refineries to interior of the nation, reducing the cost of product placement and eliminating environmental impact of other source of transportation.
These pipelines have replaced product movement from rail and tank trucks, reducing 198,000 MT Carbon Dioxide equivalent Emissions annually.
Always ahead of our times, powered with latest technology, we have added 6,110 Fuel Stations taking our robust network to over 15,400. Spread across the length and breadth of the nation, this network offers reliability and convenience to our customers. With the changing times and ever evolving consumer landscape, during the last decade, triggered urbanization and modernization of the fuel retailing industry. We once again took the lead with the launch of sophisticated network automation protocol taking Indian fuel retailing to a new exclusive domain of integrated and online fuelling.
Branded "Automation for Sure", this new retail network automation system installed at our Fuel Stations across the country was an amalgamation of hardware and software which captures, records & preserves each fuel transaction & each fuel handling activity online for customer enablement.
'Pure for Sure' - our pioneering Quality & Quantity Assurance, was upgraded to modern, technology-enabled 'Pure for Sure Platinum' Fuel Stations, in 2011, across urban and highway markets, promising a fresh and welcoming environment.
Pure For Sure Platinum is an all-out effort to strengthening the relationship between the company and its customers, and by all means, we at Bharat Petroleum stand for our tagline for PFS Platinum, "Vaada Nahi Daava!!!". Today we have strength of 7,102 'Pure for Sure' and 1,539 Pure for Sure - Platinum' Fuel Stations, we ensure that our customers experience a truly 'Pure For Sure' experience.
We have taken our 'Pure for Sure' to GenNext to further enhance the fueling experience. The NextGen Pure for Sure proposition offers Assurance, Transparency, Experience, Peace Of Mind, Best in class value and Convenience to our customers.
Our SmartFleet Loyalty Card, first-of-its-kind loyalty programme launched in India, was upgraded in 2018, to integrate SmartFLeet with Automation and Electronic Payment to eliminate human intervention to ensure 'We Bill, What we Fill!'. Today with more than Rs. 34 thousand Crore turnover and a customer base of around 4 lakh customers, SmartFLeet is one of the most admired Fuel Loyalty Programme in the country.
We also launched BPCL-SBI Credit Card, the fastest growing urban loyalty co-branded card, which has redefined urban fuel retailing loyalty, with instant redemption facility and best-in-class savings, catering to more than 4 lakh happy customers – numbers which are growing every day.
Consumption growth in rural India has outpaced urban spending. Bharat Petroleum introduced UMANG – a comprehensive marketplace to cater to the rural customer base offering them solutions for household and business needs, which has enabled rural population with facilities like, Remittances, Bill Payments & Recharges, Assisted Online Shopping, Transactions on Government Online Portals, at our 1,024 Fuel Stations.
Bharat Petroleum's widespread network of fuel stations is backed by a vast distribution network of installations, depots and despatch units. 80% facilities are Fully Automated with 98% Automation up-time. These facilities are accredited with international systemic, environmental and HSSE Certifications. During the last 10 years, we have added 620,000 KL tankages to cater to the growing automotive fuel consumption.
Bharatgas - a brand responsible for spreading cheer and good health to millions of households. A massive network of 5,907 distributors across the country to ensures we reach even the remotest locations.
During the last 10 years, we have enrolled 5 Crore new customers and have added 3,720 Distributors to cater to our growing customer base.
We also commissioned 3 new LPG Plants taking our tally to 52, which are operating more than 100% Capacity Utilisation of 6,100 TMT. Our automated infrastructure boasts of modern 72 station Flexi Carousals, at major plants, with an unmatched filling capacity of 4,200 LPG cylinders per hour.
Besides, being modern, LPG plants maintain high standards of best practices in HSSE, had have won the 'Best LPG Marketing Organization' by Oil Industry Safety Directorate (OISD), for the 9th consecutive year.
Bharat Petroleum has been at the forefront in reaching out to LPG customers under the Direct Benefit Transfer Scheme, PAHAL, enrolling 6.65 Crore Customer and have directly transferred Rs. 30,158.63 Crore towards the subsidy till November 2019.
We have been at the forefront to roll out Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana to safeguard health of women & children by helping them switch to clean cooking fuel, by releasing more than 2 Crore connections to PMUY beneficiaries. To support low-income rural customers, we have now introduced 5kg cylinders, as an affordable option.
Keeping with times, we have digitised the cylinder booking and payment using our mobile app, enhancing customer convenience and ease.
MAK Lubricants, which is a preferred partner for leading OEMs who require mineral or synthetic oil-based lubricants today commands 11% Market Share in India, and offers 349 Grades in 841 SKUs.
MAK Lubricants also has strong presence in 12 countries in Asia, Africa and the Middle East. MAK is undisputed market leader in Nepal, holds Highest Market Share amongst Indian OMC's in Bangladesh and top 5 lubricants brand in Sri Lanka, with plans to expand our foot prints to Brazil, Mozambique, Myanmar, and Philippines

Bharat Petroleum has pioneered Indian aviation fuel services and continues to be preferred choice of domestic and international airlines.
As the UDAAN scheme is giving impetus to regional connectivity with new airports at remote locations, we are matching the pace by expanding our network. Today, we fuel over 500 flights every day through our operations at 58 Indian airports, adding 28 in last 10 years.
Last decade also saw the modernization of Mumbai and Delhi Airports, with Delhi Airport Terminal-III commissioning on 3rd July 2010. Through our JV BSSPL, we are one of the only two into-plane operators at Delhi International Airport. While, at Mumbai Airport, we took over the operations of Fuel Farm Facilities in 2014.
Over the last 3 years, we have been the growth leader with 19% share in Industrial & Commercial category catering to automobile, mining, electricity, manufacturing, transportation and more.
Along with fueling industries, we also develop products that provide feed stocks. Polymer Grade Propylene, Pharma Grade Hexane and Solvent D80 are now manufactured in India under the ‘Make in India' initiative.
Through our fully owned subsidiary, Bharat Petro Resource Limited, we entered the Upstream of exploration and production in the oil sector, to become a true vertically integrated oil conglomerate in 2003.
Today, BPRL has participating interest (PI) in 26 blocks of which 13 are located in India and thirteen overseas. Among the overseas blocks, 6 are in Brazil, 2 in United Arab Emirates and 1 each in Mozambique, Indonesia, Australia, Israel and Timor Leste. These blocks are in various stages of exploration, appraisal, pre-development and production phase.
The total acreage held by BPRL and its subsidiaries is around 31,487 square kilometers of which approximately 62% is offshore.
Natural gas is a clean energy alternative, which burns more cleanly than other fossil fuels, emitting lower levels of harmful emissions.
With a view to capture upcoming opportunities and to evolve as a prominent player in the natural gas market in the future, we transferred our Gas Business Unit to our Subsidiary, Bharat Gas Resources Limited. As a first mover in the city gas distribution business by co-promoting Indraprastha Gas Ltd, a Joint Venture with GAIL, by setting up a network in NCR, we have now co-promoted more CGD networks by forming JVCs viz. Sabarmati Gas Ltd in Gujarat with GSPC, Maharashtra Natural Gas Ltd, Central UP Gas Ltd, Haridwar Natural Gas Ltd and Goa Natural Gas Pvt Ltd with GAIL.
With 17 City Gas Distribution of our own and a planned CAPEX investment of over Rs 5,000 Crore, Bharat Gas Resources is all set to reaching the benefits of Natural Gas to households, transportation and industrial sector and reduce India's carbon footprint for a better future.
